Parents Of GCSE Students Listen

If you set your child ridiculously high standards and put pressure on them to achieve these results it will only cause them stress and believe it or not, teenagers don't deal with stress too well.

I've heard of more than one case today of students getting pretty damn good results and their parents being angry or ashamed because they haven't met the stupidly high standards set.  This really isn't fair at all.  You should give praise to them where it's due and perhaps try asking them if they are happy with the results and if not, why not?

Fact of the matter is it's not their fault for underachieving, it's your fault for trying to force them to overachieve.

Of course you want your child to do well but to quote a very old saying "The carrot approach works better than the stick".

So if you're one of these students and you're now going on to do A levels, good luck, knuckle down but don't stress out over it.  Just try to do as well as you can.  If you do that, you can't go far wrong.

Well done!
